Frequently asked questions

What is the yuan-to-baht rate?

Roughly 1 yuan is about 4-5 baht. Check the exact figure with the exchanger.

Do they accept cash yuan?

Yes, licensed exchangers work with the yuan and pay out baht in cash or by transfer.

Where is it better to exchange yuan for baht?

At the large licensed chains in the city or online with delivery. At the airport and at small street spots the yuan rate is usually worse.

Do Alipay and WeChat work in Thailand?

In some venues for Chinese tourists, yes, but to get cash baht at a good rate it is more convenient to exchange through a trusted chain.

How to exchange yuan to baht well

Exchanging yuan for baht is in demand among those who travel to Thailand from China or work with Chinese payment systems. The yuan rate is kept close to the market, and, as with any currency, it is better to change it in the city than at the airport.

A licensed chain will accept cash yuan or a transfer and pay out baht in a convenient way: in cash at the office, by courier or to a Thai account. The final rate is locked in when you place the request.

Not every street spot accepts cash yuan, so it is more reliable to change it where they work with this currency regularly: at a large chain or online. At a random counter it is easy to get a lowered yuan rate or a refusal.

If your money is on a card or in Alipay and WeChat, you will not be able to withdraw baht directly at a good rate. It is more convenient to arrange a transfer with an exchanger and receive cash baht, by courier or to a Thai account, with the rate locked in when you place the request.
